What is Click-Through Rate (CTR)?

The percentage of people who saw a link (in search results, an email, an ad) and clicked it.

In SEO, CTR is the rate at which your search-result snippet gets clicked: clicks / impressions. CTR varies wildly by position — position 1 in organic search averages 35–40% CTR, position 5 averages 5%, position 10 averages 2%. CTR is heavily influenced by your meta description, title tag, and any rich-result features (FAQ accordions, breadcrumbs, ratings). Improving CTR at constant ranking is one of the highest-leverage SEO moves: better title, better description, more rich-result eligibility.
