The AI coding tool space is crowded. Here's a practical framework for picking the right tool based on your stack, workflow, and who will maintain the output.

By mid-2026, every engineering team has at least one AI coding tool in their workflow, and most have two or three. The question stopped being "should we use AI?" and became "which AI tool, when, for what?" Spend your evaluation budget on iterations 2–5, not on the first generation. That's where the real productivity differences emerge.

Step 5: Price it against your actual usage
